Anúna is an
Irish choral group. In
1987
Dublin
composer
Michael McGlynn founded An Uaithne, a name
which describes the three ancient types of Celtic music,
Suantraí (lullaby), Geantraí (happy song)
and Goltraí (lament). One of the group's primary
aims was to explore and redefine this music, and also to
perform McGlynn's own original works and his
arrangements of medieval and traditional Irish music. An
Uaithne became Anúna in 1991, and became closely
associated with the
Riverdance phenomenon from 1994 until 1996. Many of
the singers who received inititial training and
international exposure through Anúna have gone on to
achieve international prominence, including
Eimear Quinn who won the
Eurovision Song Contest in
1996, and no less than three of the soloists who
have been featured in
Celtic Woman.

With a song
h it's entitled "pie jesu,"
and it's a setting from
the christian requiem mass.
I wrote this in 1998
after the ohma bombing
in northern ireland,
one of the greatest attrocities
in our living memory
in our country.
And we have found
over the years, that sadly,
while conflict has vanished
from our own island,
it appears to have found
a very welcome nesting place
in so many different places
on the earth.
So,
an?a's music has helped
all of you just maybe chill
and relax a little bit.
And hopethat isn't the usual bombastic
finish to a concert,
but something that will
nkething awayfrom tonight.
